The presence of a gap between the front teeth is known as a diastema. This is a relatively common cosmetic problem that many individuals experience. Some may look upon the gap between the two front teeth as an attractive feature, but for those who do not, veneers are the answer to achieving a perfect smile without the use of braces, which can be time-consuming or cause discomfort for the wearer.

Veneers are a highly popular option for treating diastema. These thin porcelain layers are bonded to the front of teeth to achieve a uniform appearance. They are a quick and painless way to fix diastema, compared with braces, which can take months or even years to achieve the same effect. In this blog, we will discuss how veneers can be used to treat diastema, why they are an excellent choice for people looking to improve their smile, and answer a few questions about veneers.

Veneer: Definition, Types, Uses, Example, Working Principle

Veneers refer to thin shells of tooth-colored materials carefully crafted to cover the front sides of your teeth. They can be made of porcelain or composite resin. In this dental procedure, a cosmetic dentist shapes your teeth and attaches veneers to achieve a natural look.

To fill gaps, veneers in Waukegan, IL, change the tooth’s shape and size. These are applied to the teeth bordering the gap to make them look fuller. They cover up the teeth with a thin but strong layer. This is done in a few appointments, providing a much faster solution for orthodontic work.

The Process of Closing Gaps Using Veneers

If you are considering veneers to correct your diastema, it is essential to consult a cosmetic dentist first. During this consultation, your cosmetic dentist will examine your teeth and discuss your concerns and goals before deciding whether veneers are suitable for you.

The process generally entails the following steps:

  1. Consultation and Planning: Your dentist will take x-rays and discuss with you what you want. Your dentist also wants to talk with you about the kind of veneer you want.
  2. Tooth Preparation: Your tooth will undergo shaping, with some enamel removed from its surface to make room for the veneers to fit comfortably and snugly.
  3. Mold and Fabrication: Your dentist will take impressions of your prepared teeth to ensure a perfect fit for the veneers. This may take a couple of weeks.
  4. Application: When the veneers are ready, the dentist will apply them to the teeth and then cement them in place using an adhesive. This gives the perfect outcome: beautiful teeth with no spaces.

Are Veneers Permanent?

While veneers are long-lasting, they are not permanent. Yes, they are very durable, but they are still not unbreakable. Over time, they may need to be replaced. However, with proper care, veneers can maintain your bright, healthy smile for 10-15 years or more.

Many individuals appreciate the permanence of veneers. While braces have to be worn only temporarily and take many years to adjust to, veneers are a more permanent option. They do require periodic visits to the dentist, along with proper dental care, to ensure the veneers remain in excellent condition.

We have been going here for a few years now and it’s a great dental place. Denise is always welcoming and somehow remembers our whole family. Dr Cheska is very friendly and always happy to see us. We went out of network for our insurance and we did go somewhere else but came running back. They take cleaning very serious and we love that. Awesome people and great place to take care of your teeth.

This is the best dentist I've ever been to, and I don't say that lightly. I have trauma/anxiety with going to the dentist, but Dr. Avery is so knowledgeable, gentle, and good at what she does. All of the staff are accommodating and kind. The location is excellent, and the building is very nicely decorated and comforting. I had my first crown done last year, and Dr. Avery was incredibly gentle and patient with me. I have learned so much about oral hygiene since coming here.
